Parc Howard Museum is Llanelli's principal public museum and art gallery, housed in an elegant Edwardian mansion set within the beautiful public parkland of Parc Howard in the west of the town. The mansion was originally built as a private residence and later presented to the people of Llanelli, with the park and house opening to the public in 1912. Both the building and its surrounding park are listed as assets of significance for the local community, providing a green oasis in this South Wales industrial town.
Llanelli's history is one of the most industrially significant in Wales. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, Llanelli and the surrounding area was the most important tinplate-producing region in the world — earning the town its nickname 'Tinopolis'.
