The Guardroom Museum is the home of the Adjutant General's Corps Museum, located within the historic Peninsula Barracks complex on Romsey Road in Winchester. Opened in 2003, the museum preserves and presents the rich history of the corps and its antecedent organisations, which have been responsible for the administration, discipline, and welfare of the British Army for centuries.
The Adjutant General's Corps was formed in 1992 through the amalgamation of several specialist corps and branches, each with its own distinguished heritage. The museum brings together the histories of the Royal Military Police, the Military Provost Staff Corps, the Army Legal Services, the Educational and Training Services, the Army Physical Training Corps, and the Adjutant General's Corps Staff and Personnel Support Branch, among others.
The Royal Military Police collection is one of the museum's highlights, charting the history of army policing from the mounted staff corps of the Napoleonic Wars to the modern red-capped military police of today.
